State Minister pleads guilty to bribery charges

Finance Minister Willy Jimmy has pleaded Guilty to bribery charges laid against him by the public prosecutor.

It is the first time in Vanuatu history a State Minister has pleaded guilty to criminal charges, but it is not a surprise as people always felt MP Jimmy will make the logical move to prove a point in the case.

The Judge asked all defense lawyers to prepare for a one week trial starting on Monday the 7th of September to Friday 11th September 2015.

MP Jimmy hails from the Port Vila Constituency and is President of the Liberal Democratic Party. It is not yet clear how soon he will resign his position because of his plea but under normal practices as witnessed around the world, Minister Jimmy must resign to ensure the Ministry of Finance keeps its integrity.
