New Zealand awards over 30 scholarships to Ni- Vanuatu

A total of 39 Ni-Vanuatu have been awarded long term scholarships through the New Zealand Scholarship Programme to study in New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea for the 2018 academic year.

18 of the recipients will study at different universities around New Zealand while the remaining 21 will attend Fiji National University, University of the South Pacific, Laucala Campus, and the University of Papua New Guinea.

The New Zealand government is committed to awarding scholarships to Ni-Vanuatu in subject areas that are the most relevant to the development needs of Vanuatu. Under the New Zealand Scholarship Programme, students will be expected to use the skills and knowledge they have gained during their studies to assist the social and economic development of Vanuatu on their return home.

Areas of study the 39 students are undertaking include: Disaster Risk Management, Education, Environment & Resource Management, Finance & Economics, Fisheries & Maritime, Health, Infrastructure & Engineering, Law, Private Sector Development, Public Sector Management, Renewable Energy and Agriculture.

The students will attend a pre-departure briefing on Thursday the 18th and Friday the 19th of January before the first group departs for Fiji next week.
