Review of National Cruise Tourism Action Plan

The Department of Tourism has completed a one-day consultation leading up to the Review of the National Cruise Tourism Action Plan 2015 and the Development Cruise Tourism Development Sustainable Strategy 2019 – 2028 on 8th Oct 2018.

The Acting Director of the Department of Tourism, Donald Pelum, has posted on his Facebook timeline that “The review was to prepare to improve existing plans that cover the strategic goals and actions to develop Vanuatu as one of the best cruise destinations in the South Pacific”

Mr. Pelum stated “in relation to the National Sustainable Development Plan 2030 and the new Vanuatu Tourism Sustainable Policy already in place by the Vanuatu Government, the review will resolve if there is a need to improve on the National Cruise Tourism Action Plan”

Pelum pointed out “It is important that the management of the environment and social implications are also considered for host communities involved in a growing tourism industry”.

“The strategy is critical to assist the Government through its institutions to develop the sector and importantly align itself with the pillars of the National Sustainable Development Plan (NSDP)”

Pelum says “The Strategy will strongly place it’s focus on the current market growth of the cruise sector taking into consideration the impacts this growth will cause and how to plan on mitigation with the objective of strengthening partnership with all relevant stakeholders in the cruise sector especially host communities in the outer islands”.

The Acting Director stated to attendants that “The outcome of the strategy is to ensure that Vanuatu as a destination for cruise tourism recommends clear actions on how to develop, manage and market it’s resources strategically to benefit the industry, the people and the Government of Vanuatu”.

Lastly the Acting Director Of Tourism “acknowledged the tourism stakeholders from Sanma, Luganville, Torba, Panama and Malampa who made time in their busy schedules to attend this one day consultation in Luganville, Santo, and thanks them all for their contributions”.
