‘South-South cooperation and technical assistance’, a program by Indonesia on the Pacific region and small island states, continues to grow, especially in the field of agricultural development of developing countries.

“Indonesia continues to be committed to support agricultural modernisation and development of the developing countries in the Pacific region in particular Small Island Developing State (SIDS) through a program of South-South cooperation and technical assistance.”

This was stated Dr. Mat Syukur, Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture in a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Agriculture of Fiji, Honorable Inia Seruiratu, on the sideline of FAO Regional Conference for Asia and the Pacific 34, in Nadi, Fiji, (11/4).

The meeting agreed to follow up the MoU signed by both the Minister of Agriculture in August 2017.

The Government of Fiji expect a follow up of the MoU can be done in the form of a Joint Working Group which discussed various technical cooperation programs related to adaptation and mitigation of climate change, intensification and modernisation of agriculture, as well as personnel development experts in agriculture.

In addition, Fiji hopes to learn from farmers’ cooperative development efforts in Indonesia, aquaculture and Small and medium-sized enterprises.
